Scotland Delineated in a Series of Views…

This stunning, first edition folio lithograph is from John Parker Lawson’s Scotland Delineated in a Series of Views…. The work was published in London by E. Gambert & Joseph Hogarth between 1847 and 1854. Each lithograph features beautiful original hand-coloring and are mounted to stiff cards.

The cost of this project was enormous. David Roberts was paid £1000 for his contribution alone. This in turn led to its commercial failure and limited sale. This makes finding the plates in this state with original hand-coloring exceptionally rare.

This work is one of the most attractive works of Scottish scenery and a major achievement in topographical lithography. The images truly reflect the grandeur and beauty of the Scottish landscape. The drawings were commissioned by noted landscape artists including J. M. W. Turner, David Roberts, J. D. Harding, Joseph Nash, Horatio Macculloch, D. O. Hill, W. A. Nesfield, Sir W. Allan, Clarkson Stanfield, George Cattermore, W. L. Leitch, and Thomas Creswick. The lithographs were mostly completed by J. D. Harding.
