This exquisite stippled engraving is from Abbe Laurent Berleses Iconographie du Genre Camellia. The work was published in Paris in 1843 by H. Cousin, Libraire-Editeur.
Each stippled and line engraving was printed with partial color using the a la poupee process. Hand-coloring was then carefully applied to complete each masterful work of art. J. J. Jung delineated the camellias with great scientific accuracy from life from the gardens of Berlese. The engravings were composed by Oudet, Dumenil, & Gabriel. The art of stippled engraving was made famous by the renowned Pierre Joseph Redoute.
