The title has been reattached and the spine has been redone. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:center;\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eDescription of the work: \u003c\/b\u003eThis volume with 17 engraved maps is Antonio de Herrera's \u003cem\u003eDescription des Indes Occidentales, qu'on appelle aujourdhuy le Nouveau Monde\u003c\/em\u003e translated \u003cem\u003eDescription of the West Indies, which we call today the New World\u003c\/em\u003e.  This is the French edition of the work published in 1622 in Amsterdam by Emanuel Colin, and sold in Paris by Michel Soly.  The first edition of the work was published in 1601 in Spanish, entitled \u003cem\u003eDescription de las indias ocidentales de antonio de herrera coronista mayor de magdellas indias y su coronista de castilla\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere are 17 engraved maps, engraved frontispiece, and in text illustrations.  The volume is bound in contemporary fawn calf, double gilt fillet.  Modern raised bands on the spine, old pieces decorated with the double crowned G monogram of Gaston d'Orleans.  The work includes Herrera's \u003cem\u003eDesciption of the Indies\u003c\/em\u003e, Jacques le Maire's \u003cem\u003eJournal and Mirror of Southern Navigation\u003c\/em\u003e, Pedro Ordonnes de Cevallos' \u003cem\u003eParticular Description of the West Indies\u003c\/em\u003e, and Petrus Bertius' \u003cem\u003eDescription of America, Which Is The New World\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAntonio de Herrara y Tordesillas (1549-1625\/1626) was a chronicler, historian, and writer of the Spanish Golden Age. He was the chief chronicler of the Castile and the Americas during the reigns of Philip II and Philip III. He is considered the most prolific historian of his era.
