It is from Willem Janszoon Blaeu \u0026amp; Joan (Johannes) Blaeu and published in Amsterdam between the 1640s and 1660s.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWillem Janszoon Blaeu (1571-1638), Jan’s father, founded the famous Blaeu cartographic firm in Amsterdam. He studied astronomy and science under Tycho Brahe. He established a globe and instrument making business in 1599 which soon expanded into cartography publishing. It became one of the most important publishing firms in the world that was also later run by his sons Cornelis and Jan. Their maps are noted for their fine engraving process, coloring, and design and are often referred to as “the highest expression of Dutch cartographical art.” He also served as the official cartagropher for the Dutch East India Company in 1630.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eJoan (Johannes) Blaeu (1596-1673) began the publication of the Nuevo Atlas in 1659 and would eventually change the title to Atlas Mayor. It was to be his most famous atlas, and was meant to include up to 13 volumes, but only 10 volumes were ever completed as his printing house was destroyed by fire. The work was published in Augsberg in 1575.  It is considered the greatest atlas of city views ever made.  It included some of the earliest views available and is a crucial guide to understanding the world in the 16th century.  The text to verso is in Latin.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\"The \u003cem\u003eCivitates orbis terrarum\u003c\/em\u003e or the 'Braun \u0026amp; Hogenberg' is the most famous of the early town atlases. The Civitates was, like Ortelius's \u003cem\u003eTheatrum\u003c\/em\u003e, one of the best-selling works in the last quarter of the 16th century. Although it had no comparable predecessor, it immediately answered a great public demand because social, political and economic life at that time was concentrated in cities. He was apprentice to Louis Spirinx, an engraver, from the age of 12. His father was a print and map seller, and Nicholas eventually inherited his business after his passing. He was appointed as geographer of the Grand Dauphin and eventually the Geographer of the Kings of France and Spain.  De Fer produced over 600 maps or plans including border maps, conquests of Louis XIV, fortifications of Vauban, and voyages or discoveries in new territories.  His maps in particular were done with strong collaboration of many renowned engravers including N. Guerard, C. Gournay, C. Inselin, P. Starckmann, H. Van Loon, F. de la Pointe, and A. They were responsible for many important publications. Jan Jansson was a noted geographer in his own right. He married the daughter of another prominent mapmaker, Jodocus Hondius, and also worked with her brothers Henricus \u0026amp; Jodocus II.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHenricus Hondius (1597-1651) \u0026amp; Jodocus Hondius (1593-1629) were Dutch engravers and mapmakers. The brothers worked closely together and took over their father's engraving business.
