This strong engraving is from Michaelis Angeli Causei de La Chausse’s Romanum Museum sive Thesaurus Eruditae Antiquitatis… The work was published in Rome by Fausti Amidei in 1746.
The engravings show various antiquities including vases, statues, tools and instruments. Many of these illustrations incorporate ancient gods and goddesses, caesars, and philosophers.
Causei Le Chausse was an important diplomat and antiquarian. He turned his love of collecting into the science of archaelogy. Much of his expansive collection is illustrated in this work.
