The History of the Royal Residences of Windsor Castle, St. James's Palace, Carlton House, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court, Buckingham House, and Frogmore

This originally hand-colored aquatint engraving is from William Henry Pyne’s The History of the Royal Residences of Windsor Castle, St. James’s Palace, Carlton House, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court, Buckingham House, and Frogmore. The work was published in London by A. Dry in 1819.

The work illustrated the interior and exteriors of the royal residences of Great Britain. The engravings serve as important illustrations of the homes at this period of time and were issued with the approval of the royal family. The plates were after illustrations from Charles Wild, James Stephanoff, and others.

William Henry Pyne (1769-1843) was an English writer, illustrator and painter. He was best known for his picturesque scenes of life and culture of England. He worked for many of Rudolf Ackermann’s publications as well.
