This attractive pair of hand-colored engravings of a bird and nest & eggs is from James Boltons Harmonia Ruralis; Or An Essay Towards a Natural History of British Song Birds. The work was published in London by Henry G. Bohn in 1845.
Bolton was an English illustrator and naturalist. Harmonia Ruralis is widely considered his masterpiece. Boltons nest and egg prints are the most desired amongst collectors. This particular edition is often considered to have the most subtle and fine hand-coloring. The birds and nests were drawn from life.
