This attractive original watercolor was part of Pierre Adolphe Delattre’s Ornithologie d’Europe par Mr Delattre, conservateur des forêts en retraite, Voir pour le texte le manuel d’ornithologie de Mr Temminck. The work was completed in 1844 in Douai, France. Each watercolor was done on thick vellum paper and features the Latin and French names of the birds. The watercolors follow the classification of Conrad Jacob Temminck, the first director of the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden. Pierre Adolphe Delattre (or de Lattre: 1805-1854) was Conservator of Forests. He held a passion for European and exotic birds.
