Jean Linden published this remarkable work on orchids in the height of Belgiums orchid fever or orchidelerium. Lindenia: Iconographie des Orchidees was published in Beglium between 1885 and 1894. Lindenia is one of the most important publications on orchids featuring stunning, high quality color plates. Linden travelled extensively finding over 1100 species of orchids and importing them to Belgium for cultivation. He founded a nursery in Brussels with his son and published Lindenia. Lindens research and findings revolutionized the cultivation of orchids in Europe. The chromolithographs were printed by some of the best botanical lithographs of the time including Severeyns and De Pannemaeker after the work of Alfred Goosen and others.
