This beautiful watercolor is from a collection of mostly palm or tropical plants of South America. They were completed circa 1800.

The watercolors from this collection were completed over pencil. The paper can include watermarks of fleur-de-lis, cross, WP, or CDG. This paper type and style are indicative of late eighteenth or early nineteenth natural history illustrations.

The artist is unknown, but they are skillfully executed and capture South American flora. There was a particular focus on plants for human consumption including coconuts and passion-fruit like vines. The artist also painted the tools and men harvesting the plants in some of the watercolors.
