This folio botanical lithograph is from Coenraad Jacob Temminck’s Verhandelingen over de Natuurlijke Geschiedents der Nederlandsche oberzeesche bezittingen… The work was published in Leiden by J. Luchtmans and C.C. Van der Hoek between 1839 and 1842. This was part of the “publication(s) of the scientific results of the explorations of the Natural History Commission of the Netherlands Indies, under the general editorship of Temminck.” (Landwehr)
Coenraad Jacob Temminck (1778-1858)was a Dutch aristocrat and zoologist. He was the first director of the National Natural History Museum in Leiden. He was an accomplished ornithological publisher with 47 species named after him, 20 of which are birds. He also produced this lovely Indonesian botanical work presented here.
