This stylish botanical drawing is done in gouache and watercolor over pen and ink drawings. The botanicals are drawn by various artists or students and each is signed at the lower edge. They were completed circa 1930 in Zurich after flowers in the Zurich Botanical Garden.
The collection was intended as a painted “tour” of the flowers and plants of the Botanical Garden of Zurich. Students and staff drew the plants in the Art Deco or New Objectivity style. The collection and style was likely influenced by the flower work of Rudolf Koch.
