This unique and elaborate long scroll features 29 birds in gouache color and is often referred to as momodori illustration. It was completed in the late 19th century. Goauche coloring was used to illustrate the birds through the scroll which is of mulberry paper. The paint has been heightened in gold in some places. It features fine Japanese calligraphy in black ink near many of the images with names in kanji or katakana. The scroll is mounted on a roller with the endpaper decorated with gold and with golden title slip endpaper backed with brocade and a silk tie.
