This strong mythological engraving is from Ottavio Antonio Bayardi’s Le Antichità di Ercolano esposte. The work was published in Naples by Regia Stamperia between 1755 and 1792. The copper engravings were after drawings done by Caillo Paderni. This engraving is from the first edition of the important work that illustrated the inventorying of excavated sites of Herculaneum, Pompeii and Stabiae. The work was never intended for sale, but rather gifted to the royal family of Naples and dignitaries.

Several artists and engravers contributed to the work including Francesco Giuseppe Casanova, Pasquale Carcani, Giovanni Elia Morghen, Filippo Morghen, Camillo Paderni, Luigi Vanvitelli, Francesco Giomignani, Giuseppe Aloja, Niccolo Vanni, Francisco Preciado de La Vega, Francesco Cepparuli, Nicoloì Billy (the younger), Rocco Pozzi, Pietro Campana, Pierre-Jacques Gaultier, Filippo De Grado, Carlo Nolli, Carlo Orazi, Niccolo Orazi, Secondo de Angelis, Miquel Sorello, Ferdinando Campana, Nicola Fiorillo, Ferdinando Strina, Francesco Sesoni, Isidoro Frezza, Vincenzo Campana, Carmine Pignatari, Marcantonio Jacomino, Aniello Cataneo and Pier Lorenzo Mangini.
