The Odyssey or L'Odyssee

This remarkable folio lithograph is from Marc Chagall’s illustrated work of Homer’s Odyssey or L’Odyssee. The work was published in Paris by Fernand Mourlot in 1975. This was a limited edition of 250, of which this was # 63. It is printed on Arches wove paper, and signed by Chagall in pencil on the justification.

Chagall’s artistry was a fantastic match to the mythic imagery provided from Homer’s literature. The folio lithographs illustrate the joy, tragedy, beauty, and danger of Homer’s text.
