Views in Egypt… or Vues en Egypte, d'après les Dessins Originaux en la Possession de Sir Robert Ainsle, pris durant son Ambassade à Constantinople

This volume with 48 originally hand-colored aquatint engravings is Louis Mayer’s Views in Egypt… or Vues en Egypte, d’après les Dessins Originaux en la Possession de Sir Robert Ainsle, pris durant son Ambassade à Constantinople. The work was published in London by Thomas Bensley for R. Bowyer between 1802. The volume is bound in contemporary full green morocco, covers and spine richly gilt.

The work illustrates numerous informative views of the Middle East. The original drawings for the work were completed by Louis Mayer for Sir Robert Ainslie. Ainslie was England’s ambassador to Turkey at Constantinople. Mayer was a well-versed traveler recording scenes in Palestine, Egypt, and present-day Turkey. He made sure to detail the architecture, costumes, and landscapes of the subjects.
