This originally hand-colored map is by Guillame Sanson for Joannis Luyts’s Philosphiae Professoris, Introductio ad Geographiam Novam et Veterm… The work was published in Paris in 1692. The atlas included many maps depicting the World, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
Guillame Sanson (1633-1703) was a French cartographer and geographer. He served in the court of the King of France, Louis XIV. He was son of noted cartographer, Nicolas Sanson (oft considered the father of French cartography). After his father’s passing, he continued in the map-making business in partnership with his brother Hubert Jaillot.
