About the map:
This extraordinary 12 sheet map is after John Mitchell’s Map of America or Le Colonie Unite dell America Settentr.le du Nuova Projezione a Ss.ee. Li Signori Riformatori dello Studio di Padova. Mitchell’s was the first printed map devoted to the thirteen states and widely regarded as the most important map in American history. Zatta’s map updated this with information from the Treaty of 1763 and events in the Revolutionary War.
About the work:
This excellent map is from Antonio Zatta’s Atlante novissimo, illustrato ed accresciuto sulle osservazioni, e scoperte fatte dai più celebri e più recenti geografi, che ora per la prima volta si produce. The work was published in Venice between 1775 and 1785. This was one of the most comprehensive and stunning world atlases published in Italy in the 18th century.
Antonia Zatta (1757-1797) was an Italian editor, cartographer, and publisher. He was particularly active between 1757 and 1797, and is most known for the atlas presented here Atlante Novissimo. In this work he published the first impression of the Islands visited by Captain Cook.
