Description of the work:
This vivid pochoir plate is from Edouard Benedictus's Relais, 1930: quinze planches donnant quarante-deux motifs décoratifs: enluminure d'art de J. Saudé: préliminaires de Y. Rambosson. The work was published in France in 1930 by Éditions Vincent, Fréal et Cie.
Jean Saude printed the pochoirs after Benedictus's original designs. This was the last work of Benedictus which was published posthumously.
Edouard Benedictus (1878-1930) was a French artist, inventory, and scientist. He was noted for his fun patterns and commissioned by designers to create prints, furnishings, and textiles. He was also famous for his elaborate silks and satins created for firms including Brunet, Meunie et Cie, and Tassinari et Chatel. His rugs were part of the exhibit at the French Embassy in 1925.
