Description of the work: These four volumes are A. Thorburn's British Birds. This second edition was published between 1915 & 1916 by Longmans, Green and Co. in London.

This set is uncollated but was originally published with 82 colored lithograph plates featuring 400 species of British birds and is believed to be complete. The volumes are bound in original publishers cloth with gold gilt details, and the top of the pages are gilt as well.

Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935) was a Scotish artist who specialized in wildlife painting. His work was often set in front of dramatic backgrounds and was widely reporduced. He was friends with and collaborated with J. G. Millais, another artist known for his work on birds.
